Week 6, Term 1

Kaya and welcome back to the 3H blog.

I do hope that everyone had a lovely break over the extra long weekend. My boys, husband, Kelly the Kelpie  and I were able to get away camping by the Blackwood River and it was amazing. Just what we needed.

Gosh this group of students are hard workers and such a joy to be working alongside with. They have been working hard on Place Value, Addition and Subtraction mental and writing strategies, learning to write Narratives, building their knowledge around the meaning of Lent in the lead up to Easter and also, what constitutes a healthy and balanced lifestyle. Go team go!

Seesaw

The team have been busy uploading their work on to Seesaw over the last few weeks and it looks fantastic.

Please remember to go into your settings in Seesaw app on your phone and turn notifications on to keep informed of your child’s work and progress.

We also encourage you to go through your child's Seesaw journal and have a look at all of the formal learning posts. Our formal learning samples include a cover sheet with details and a judgement of your child's achievement in regards to the WA Curriculum and teacher feedback in the form of a rubric or comment for English and Mathematics. This is a great way to keep you informed of your child's progress and an insight of their personal growth throughout the year in addition to the end of semester reports with grades.  We and your child also love to see your name when you have opened up the post and reading your comments!

If you are having trouble accessing their journal, please let me or Paula know.

Homework

The children did such a great job of getting their homework in last Friday. A new set of homework went out on Wednesday and will be due back next Friday, 18th March.

COVID

I wanted to say a big thank you for all of the patience and support you are showing during these changing times. The children have been such superstars wearing their masks during class.

Please keep up to date with the current information in regards to restrictions and close contacts by reading the emails that come through from admin. If you have any questions or queries, please direct them straight to the administration team.

Parent Teacher Meetings

Unfortunately, due to the current restrictions and situation we are all in, we are unable to meet face to face. However, we are able to set up meetings on a platform known as “Teams”, if there is anything that you would like to discuss. You do not have to have this platform, a link will be emailed to you, and it will act like a video conference.

Mask Design Fundraiser

This Friday lunch time, the OLC Y6 Leadership Team will be fundraising by giving the Y3 - 6 students the opportunity to design their own face masks.

For $2.00, children are supplied with a disposable kids mask and craft supplies.

World Down Syndrome Day

This year Miss Hurst has organised a great fundraiser for World Down Syndrome Day. The children will be working on their socks during Art on Tuesday, 15th March, so if they could bring them in named by Monday, 14th March, that would be brilliant. The details are below.

Dear Parents,

As you may already be aware World Down Syndrome Day on the 21st of March.  To celebrate this day this year, we are holding a whole school activity centred around the celebration of the day whilst also raising awareness and raising some money for the Down Syndrome WA organisation at the same time. On Monday the 21st of March, we will be hosting a crazy sock day at school. However, it will have a twist, the students will design their sock in art the week before the date (next week). This will celebrate everybody and their individualities and their creativities. What we need from you? Can you please send an old light colour pair of socks to school with your child next week? (Please do not purchase a new one). Can you please make sure that the socks have the students name on the inside? The students will then decorate them during art class. It will be amazing to see all those sock designs on the day and would be a great way to reiterate the true meaning of the day about celebrating people's uniqueness. Then on the 21st of March, the students will wear their awesome designed socks and if possible, bring a gold coin donation for Down Syndrome WA.

Thank you,

Miss Hurst
